Research has found that Treadmill therapy is supposed to help the child with Down syndrome walk about six months earlier than they would have without it and their quality of walking is better.Treadmill therapy can be started with a baby at eight to ten months of age.
I'm going to try and find some type of harness that I can hold Ruby up over the treadmill with. I may have found something at Target called Walking Wings that I think will work.Ruby's PT also suggested a harness called a Gait Trainer because it has straps that go between the legs as well as on the shoulders but then we decided this harness is probably too big for Ruby. Our goal right now is to be able to do this therapy once daily for eight minutes.

Wow! Awesome! I loved how Ruby was jumping -- I think that this is the beginning of all good things for her mobility. I also enjoyed how animated she was -- taking in her surroundings. As she was looking around while being supported, I had the feeling that she was taking in the world as if she were walking. A beautiful video, for sure. Thanks so much for sharing!♥
This is great! You can see she really gets it and is starting to take steps. When I look back, working so hard with Goldie to get her walking was one of the best things we did for her. I didn't realize it at the time but it has helped her vision tremendously! Keep going Ruby!
That is so cool!! I can't believe how good Ruby is doing on it. I think Ella would just lift up her legs so she didn't touch it. I think that our care here in CA sucks!! No one has ever mentioned that type of thing to me here. Just one more reason why I love TX so much. Did I mention that we will be MOST LIKELY passing through Dallas in early August. We are heading to Tyler for a wedding on August 8 and plan to visit friends in Dallas on the way. I really hope we can meet.
Let me know what you find! My back has been killing me holding Addie on the treadmill!! I know One Step Ahead is a catolog that carries that type of thing, I just need to decide on one and get it! Let me know what you decide! Keep going Ruby...glad she likes it!
This is awesome! Another friend of ours is very much interested in Treadmill Therapy and has her baby starting it as well. I wish we had a treadmill so I could eventually work with our Liliana on this. Definitely something to look into. Ruby really looks like she was having a great time. She was moving her little legs like crazy! Soo exciting!
Looks like Ruby is liking it. That's great! Our therapist suggested the Walking Wings for Matthew too but I haven't tried it. I have a video of Matthew walking on the treadmill too. We're walking up to 3 minutes as of today.

too funny...I posted this on blog the same day as you...

I found the garden gloves (w/ griper) help to decrease the slipping.
AND if you have a chair that you can set behind the treadmill to sit on, that should help. We should stay in touch since both girls are starting this at the same time.
I loved her little hopping. That was so sweet.
Amazing. I am going to talk to our PT about this. How old is Ruby? She is just so cute. I just found your blog and am so happy I did. THanks for sharing the treadmill therapy with all of us!
