Ruby is learning to walk

Ruby has started standing up and sitting down without holding on to anything, she has even taken a few shuffling steps in the last couple of days, and she bear crawls everywhere.I'm so excited!
When Ruby was born and I heard the statistics of when a child with Down syndrome would walk,I thought that I would work with her and she would be one of those super kids with Down syndrome who walked early.Well,I have worked with her, therapists have worked with her,her siblings have helped her, I'm sure that it was all good for her,but Ruby hasn't decided she would walk yet,she is 2 1/2 years old now,and you know what it doesn't matter one little bit to me if she doesn't walk until she's 3 or 4 or whenever. What matters is that she is doing her best,we are giving her the help and love that she needs and she will walk and run when she's ready. What if she can't walk on her own and needs some type of adaptive device to help her? Well that's o.k. too.I'm so proud of my baby! She brings so much joy to our lives.
Here are some pictures of her standing and a video of her bear crawling. In the video you can see the baby gate I had to prop up against the bookshelf to keep Ruby from pulling all the books off,she LOVES to throw EVERY book off that shelf.I'm so proud she can :)

Yay! Ruby!!!!! Oh Cheryl, I love this update! I really feel as if I've been watching Ruby grow up and this is such a big milestone.

Gabe, too, did the bear crawl right before walking!

Go, Ruby!!!♥

Hooray for Ruby! What a big girl! When the hubs and I read the stats on walking, we were like-huh, we already have to chase 3 kids around, so whatever!
and isn't it funny how we're so proud of things like pulling books off shelves? instead of getting angry we're impressed with the fine motor skills!

So great to focus on what our kids CAN do and not what they can't.

If she starts tooling around on 2 feet, you might have to buy more baby gates.

Go Ruby! It seems like Ruby and my Jimmy are right at the same level. He's also 2 1/2. It will happen!

Oh my gosh, LOVE the bear crawl, its so cute!! And I am glad you mentioned how in the beginning you thought if you worked with Ruby enough she would be one of the ones who walked sooner...I thought that with Russell. When he was born I didnt believe them when they told me he might not walk until 2...But now, I just see my son trying the best that he can, and no matter how hard we work with him he will only do it when he is ready...And thats ok.
Ruby is doing fantastic!!

Awesome! Her standing balance looks really, btw. Eon's was terrible until recently. He walked everywhere, but fell down A LOT for MONTHS! Looks like Ruby's just going to take off one day soon. :)

she is so cute! I bet it won't be too long before she starts taking those first independent steps! Have you heard of the treadmill therapy to help with the walking? Kayla used to crawl like that ... it was so cute!

look at that big girl standing up all by herself - so funny, i just posted about whitney walking today too :) whitney still can't stand all by herself without pulling up but she is starting to walk. i think whitney and ruby have the same love of pulling books off of shelves, too - it is whitney's favorite thing to sneak off to anne's room and pull every last book off of her book shelf! love the pictures and video of ruby!
