Last night after our Wednesday night church service one of the women in the church walked over to me and asked me if Ruby was crawling yet.I told her no and explained about babies with Ds having weak muscle tone.I told her I was curious to see at what age Ruby will crawl.
I was never one to worry about when my children would crawl or walk or meet any of the other milestones because I knew they would do all of these things when they were ready.I have to admit though that when I was asked this question about Ruby it bothered me a little.I got a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach.I guess I'll just have to be ready for these questions from people and tell them Ruby will do it,whatever it may be, when she's ready.

If it helps, my daughter who does not have Ds didn't start crawling until after she started walking at 16 months. Til then, she would only pull herself along with her arms, not even a true Army crawl! As with any kid, she'll do it in her own time! Not to discourage, but my son Landon (who does have Ds) will be one in just a little over a month and he's not crawling yet. But, he's quite a good roller and he's sitting up really well. Don't worry! She'll get there!
I think as people age they totally forget what is expected of babies at different ages. I just tell them what Goldie CAN do. But, that was hard in the beginning because there were so many things she wasn't doing.Or I tell them my kids have done some things early and some late and Goldie will do XYZ when she is ready.
I have a good friend who had a baby boy within 2 weeks of me having Nate, so he's just that much younger than Nate is....and he crawls and walks. And because this friend is also Nate's caregiver, we see them a lot. Nate is 14 months and not crawling yet, but like Landon, he's a great roller! And like others have also said...don't even give it another thought! So she's going to be your baby longer than other moms get-what a blessing! No more bad feelings in the pit of your stomach! She's going to surprise you and delight you very soon with all of the wonderful things she is can do! I get the same questions at my church! I smile and say, "pretty soon!" and "he sure is workin on it!"
Tristan never crawled. He went from sitting to rolling to pulling to stand to walking to running and he has never looked back. PT tried and fought with him to get him to crawl and he flat out refused. Once she gave up and encouraged pulling to stand he was walking shortly after. He still hates crawling. I make him crawl through tents/tubes and he gets mad still. It was kind of like the fight to make him crawl was holding him back. My daughter never crawled either. I so know how you feel but believe me, she is Going to run one day and you are going to wonder why on Earth you ever let it bug you. BUT you'll have new things that will bug you. LOL You said it right. She's going to do it when she is ready.
Thanks everyone! Ya'll are such a blessing to me!
